McDonald's Corp. has helped changed
the way fast food restaurants use
technology to communicate, Over the last few years, with the growth of their companies’ technology sector
became a major focus for the IT department. They were able
to advance form the cash register and completely install a computerized point-of-sale
system (POS). POS system is use to take orders from customers and send to the
cookers without cashier having to walk over the kitchen to tell them orders. This
particular sector of their technology has grown to even the present times when there POS are all touch screen, in
some restaurants, are also self-serving devices.
Silos-
Information silo pose a big problem for McDonald’s.
Information silos form when data or information is isolated within one side of
the store. If the cooks at McDonald’s
don’t receive food order from cashier base on what the customers want, they
don’t cook. Cashier can’t keep orders to their self without letting cooks know.
Everyone has to do their jobs, cashier taking customers food order and the
cooks cooking what customers want. With the adoption POS, McDonald’s has
eliminate any Information silo. The cashier send in food order to the cooks in
the order they are place and tell a clear destination where the food is going.
Data-
Data are a compilation of raw
recorded facts, figures, tables and or statistics. McDonald’s has a lot of
information concerning its employees, competitors, supply information, costs
and expenditure. McDonalds POS system is user friendly for employees. It keeps
track of employee’s clock in and clock out on a daily basis. These reports are formed for particular
subject such as payroll, In addition, it keeps track of prices of all menu
items and the daily purchases and sales data, and track of all customers’
orders.
Hardware-
There
many hardware that are used at McDonald’s. A hardware is a physical device or machine
that makes up a computer. The hardware that are Apple Computer, NewPOS system,
NP6, E-payment. The POS system is a
point of sale system create Savista and Torex. It is use to keep track of all
orders made by customers, employee clock in and clock outs. The NewPOS also help track their supply chain, staff productivity and to speed up
customer services. A new hardware McDonald’s is using is the NP6. NP6 is
a touchscreen system McDonald’s customers can use to make their orders without
any assistants from cashier or any employee. When orders are made on the NP6,
they go straight to kitchen. McDonald’s does keep records of customers order
for future reference, customers can and may change what they want each visit.
Software-
McDonald’s
uses Microsoft windows XP as its basic component of software. Windows created a
version of the software for McDonald’s POS System. It helps employee take
orders much faster and proves multiple forms of payment from the customer. In
addition to Windows XP, anther Software used at McDonald’s is OLAP. OLAP also known as online analytical processing is software use to aid McDonald’s making decision. With
OLAP McDonald’s create analytical date for cost of supplies and find more way
they could profit more.
Procedures-
Procedures are directions or guidelines used to acquire a
desire output using the hardware, software, and data components. The
procedure’s McDonald’s implant is to deliver an extraordinary customer
experience every time, while following the McDonald’s guidelines, Values
and policies and procedures. In McDonalds they implement MIS system which is
used to produce periodic reports such as a daily list of employees and the
weekly schedule showing the time and hours each employee work, or a monthly
report of expenses as compared to a budget. McDonalds used MIS because the
purpose of MIS is to provide effectiveness and information to help managers and
staff understand the business performance and plan its future direction.
People-
People-
People are End Users. Not only does the high quality of the food standard affect
the business, but the staff that is providing the services. The staff has to
establish a specific role with their tone of voice, manners, language, which
includes the way they conduct their body language as well. The presentation of
the staff will determine whether the customer was satisfied with the service,
this includes making each customer feel appreciated and welcomed by initiating
a greeting when every customer approach. “Hello welcome to McDonald’s; May I
take your order” is use when customers first enter our restaurant and “Thank
you and please come again” is use when customers are exiting our
restaurant.
Social Median
McDonald’s has its own Facebook
accounts. The Facebook page features company information, picture of
new products, apps and picture of oversea store. The Facebook page also has a
link call nearby location. The map tells you the closest McDonald’s store to
where you are.
McDonald’s also has its own Twitter
accounts. They tweet about their new products, food, different promotion and
teachers how the McDonald’s apps work. The Twitter page also has a link to the
customer service page and Global Question page. Customers may also tweet to McDonald's.
